Visiting Scholar Award

We are delighted to introduce a new UKPIN Visiting Scholar award scheme.  This is intended to assist immunologists to advance their clinical practice or research through visiting a centre of excellence or participating in specialised practical workshops and courses.

  • The scheme is designed to primarily assist doctors, nurses and scientists who are UKPIN members further their knowledge of primary immune deficiencies.Preference is given to those in training posts or further education but, in special circumstances, members with consultant status (either CCT, consultant clinical scientist, or consultant nurse practitioner) will also be considered.
  • All applicants must be currently employed in a recognised training scheme or substantive post in the UK or Republic of Ireland.Medical students are not eligible.
  • A Visiting Scholar Award is normally awarded for a period of two weeks to three months.
  • The value of each award is up to £2,000.
  • Up to 5 awards may be made each year.
  • Applications are open to attend centres of excellence and practical workshops and courses worldwide.Awards are intended to support research or development of clinical practice in the field of primary immune deficiency.This will be on the basis of practical learning, including participation at practical workshops and courses, but not attendance at scientific meetings or conferences.
  • Successful applicants must travel within 9 months of receipt of the Award.
  • Awardees will be expected to provide a written report within 3 months of return to the home institution.
  • Awards will be judged by a panel of at least 5 members of the UK PIN steering committee, who have the ability to co-opt scientific advisors as appropriate.

  • Completed UKPIN Visiting Scholar Award application form
  • Letter of invitation from host institution describing objectives of the stay
  • Signed letter of recommendation from current head of department
  • Confirmation from NHS clinical director or equivalent confirming permission to take up this award

There are quarterly deadlines for applications for this award each year.
